The practical bits

Delivery and returns

Plain English, and nothing here takes away rights you have by law.

Delivery

  • Free on UK orders over £50.
  • £5 on UK orders below that.
  • Collection in person is free and can be chosen at checkout. If you know me, this is almost certainly the sensible option.

I deliver to mainland UK addresses. Larger furniture isn't posted at all. It's either collected or I bring it to you if you're near enough, arranged when you order.

Nothing on this site is currently shipped outside the UK. If you're abroad and want something, ask and I'll find out what it would cost.

When it arrives

Ready Now pieces are already made and are posted within two working days.

Made to order pieces carry a lead time shown on the item before you buy, about a fortnight for a pen, six to eight weeks for most house pieces, eight to twelve for a chess board. That clock starts the day you order, or the day you approve a proof if there's engraving involved.

Commissions are quoted with their own timescale, agreed with you in writing before I start.

This is evening and weekend work. If something is going to run late, you'll hear from me before the date rather than after it.

Your right to cancel

Under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, you can cancel most online orders within 14 days of receiving them, for any reason at all, and get your money back. You then have a further 14 days to send the item back. You pay the return postage; I refund the price plus the standard outbound delivery cost.

To cancel, tell me. An email is enough and you don't need a form or a reason.

The exception: personalised and bespoke pieces

The same regulations say that the 14-day cancellation right does not apply to goods made to your specification or clearly personalised. In practice that means:

  • Anything engraved with a name, date, logo or message
  • Bespoke commissions built to your dimensions or design
  • Company branded orders

Engraving is cut exactly as you type it at checkout, so please read it back before you pay. If you spot a mistake, email me the same day and I'll change it.

For company orders and any engraving of ten or more, I send a proof first and make one piece before running the rest. Once you've approved that in writing, the order is being made to your specification and can't be returned because you've changed your mind.

Made-to-order pieces that are not personalised, such as a plain pen in one of my standard timbers, are still covered by the normal 14-day right.

If something's faulty

None of the above affects your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. If an item is faulty, not as described, or damaged in transit, you're entitled to a repair, replacement or refund, and that applies to personalised and bespoke pieces too.

Tell me within 30 days and you can reject it outright for a full refund. After that I'll repair or replace it. If anything I've made fails at any point, tell me anyway.

What isn't a fault

Everything here is made by hand from a natural material, so variation in colour, grain and figure is expected and isn't a defect. The photographs show the piece I made, not a guarantee that yours will match it. Small tool marks, seasonal movement in solid timber and the darkening of woods like cherry and iroko over time are all normal.

Where a piece is one of a kind and photographed individually, which is everything on Ready Now, what you see is exactly what you get.

Refunds

Refunds go back to the card you paid with, within 14 days of the returned item reaching me, or of you telling me you've sent it back. If a returned item comes back damaged through handling beyond what's needed to look at it, I may reduce the refund accordingly.
